Buses were built in Bristol from 1913 until 1983! 2008 marks the 100th anniversary since the first Bristol bus ran on the streets of its native City, and the Bristol Road Transport Collection has joined with a number of partners in the area to arrange a programme of events to celebrate this.

  • On Monday 12th. May 2008, there will be a re-enactment of the first run of a Bristol Bus
  •
  • On Saturday 17th. May 2008, Alan Peters' 1959 LD6G L8515 (969 EHW) will be working service 349 (Bristol to Keynsham, via Brislington)
  •
  • On Sunday the 18th. May 2008, the annual Bristol Harbourside Historic Transport Rally
  • 1-3rd. August 2008 Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza at Kemble Airfield near Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
  • Sunday 10th. August 2008 - Brislington Rally and Bristol Vintage Bus Group Open-day (link to www.bvpg.org.uk)
  • Sunday 12th. October 2008 - Greyhound Run, Marlborough to Bristol using former Bristol Greyhound Vehicles
These events bring together the past, the present and the future in a celebration of public transport using both classic Bristol buses and more contemporary vehicles to emphasise the future for transport in Bristol.

Understanding the past is the key to understanding the future and Bristol in particular has a special historical association with transport, buses, cars, motorcycles, heavy good vehicles, ships, aircraft and railway locomotives have all been manufactured at some time in the city or its suburbs.

Event Location: The  Lloyds TSB Harbourside Amphitheatre, Canons Marsh, Bristol.
